Additional info-Nico is a very heavy smoker, smoking up to one pack a day. For a few years, she also did Speed, although she's no longer hooked. Generally, Nico wears t-shirts and jeans, but she wears a pant suit on special occasions. You can almost always find her sitting somewhere, engrossed in her music. For a couple of years, she was a taiko drummer, but she quit when she joined the Yamaguchi-gumi.
History: Shoko Hasegawa was born in Osaka, Japan to a business man father and an ex-gangster mother. The family was well off, and her mother had repaid her debts to her gang and become and ideal mother to little Shoko, always patient and kind. Her father, however, was a raging drunk when he was home, and would disappear for days on end. At age 14, Shoko joined a gang and adopted her new name, Nico. A skilled knife fighter, Nico was set to become the gang's leader when a lower girl challenged her to a fight. Nico's nose was nearly slashed in half, resulting in a scar, but she won by slitting the other girl's throat. By becoming the boss of a gang, Nico hoped that her mother would be proud, but instead, her mother hung herself in shame. Afterwords, her father ran off with another woman, leaving Nico to fend for herself. She was only 17. So, Nico dropped out of high school, disbanded her gang, and set off to join a Yakuza syndicate she had heard of in Tokyo, the Yamaguchi-gumi. At 20, they accepted her, and made her one of their top assassins. Over the course of three years, Nico got her yakuza tattoo, got in various knife fights that scarred her mentally and emotionally, and, eventually fell in love with a man named Shinobu Taoka. Unfortunately, Shinobu was a cop, and her syndicate killed him and cut their ties with Nico by slashing the neck of the fox spirit on the tattoo on her back. Disgraced and vengeful, Nico left Japan, hoping to come back some day strong enough to destroy the Yamaguchi-gumi.
Personality: Nico is a callus, proud person who rarely opens up to others. As a result of her gang days, she keeps up a tough facade, but deep down, she's actually quite a caring person. When Nico feels emotion, she feels it violently. If she hates someone, she hates them passionately. But if she loves someone, she falls hard quickly and has a hard time getting over them. |
